PyKit Explorer CircuitPython® Development Kit — Coming Soon!
The Microchip PyKit Explorer is a desk scale embedded systems platform for first time and advancing developers
The Microchip PyKit Explorer is a CircuitPython-based development kit built in a 12 inch ruler form factor, intended to remain a functional reference tool rather than a disposable workshop board. It combines the SAME51 Curiosity CircuitPython development board with the PyKit Ruler baseboard via a solderless friction fit interface, exposing a broad set of peripherals without requiring assembly or wiring.
At the core is a 32-bit Microchip SAME51 MCU running CircuitPython, enabling direct interaction through a mounted USB mass storage interface. Code execution is immediate: editing the code.py file on the CIRCUITPY drive updates behavior without compilation or toolchain setup. This design choice minimizes environment friction and allows class time to be spent on hardware behavior, interfaces, and system design rather than software infrastructure.
The baseboard integrates display, sensors, audio, storage, and wireless connectivity, while maintaining expansion through I²C and CAN. Two Adafruit I²C sensor breakouts ship with the kit, and the rear of the ruler serves as a persistent reference card with pinout, electrical formulas, and numeric conversions, supporting both lab work and independent experimentation.
