DisplayPort Overview Slide 11
VGA is an analog standard that has been in use for decades. Almost all display devices have a VGA interface on them. As more and more notebooks and desktops have DisplayPort output, it becomes important for DisplayPort and VGA to interoperate. To enable this, there is a need for protocol translation where Digital DisplayPort data needs to be converted to analog VGA data. Most office projectors have VGA inputs and require a DisplayPort to VGA adapter to work with a PC that has DisplayPort output only.
